Logan3

First off let me start by saying I’m well aware that Hot Toys gets a lot of notice in this section.  Is said notice unworthy, absolutely not.  This is after all Points of Articulation, and when it comes to articulation, and just about everything else that makes this hobby amazing, Hot Toys is at the forefront.  So, while I do realize there are many other great companies out there I just couldn’t pass up this pre-view.  For those of you wanting more, stay tuned, there will be much more variety to come. Now on to The Wolverine.

Right off the bat, let me just say that I was not a fan of the X-Men films until First Class.  I realize it can be difficult for a film to offer ample screen time for every important character in such an ensemble series such as X-Men, I just felt the first three films got it all wrong (with the exception of Patrick Stewart as Professor X and Ian McKellen as Magneto).   As for that other origins movie, lets just say, like the Star Wars Prequels, I don’t even consider it exists.

X-MEN: FIRST CLASS proved to be the X-Men story the series deserved, and THE WOLVERINE gave Logan fans a film worthy of the great Berserker.  Now, I like Hugh Jackman as an actor, but I have always felt a little put off by his Wolverine.  However, the more the series went on the more I realized his portrayal of Logan hasn’t been the problem, rather the lack of a good story has been what has held him back from really owning the part.  The Wolverine accomplished just that, a character driven story, with Logan at the center.  This is a small comic book film-if there can be such a thing.  An awesome character study of perhaps one of the greatest superheroes of all time.

Hugh Jackman has been at this for over a decade now, and while most stars would have long gone into autopilot mode, Mr. Jackman has managed to make his portrayal of Wolverine more intense and poignant than ever, making this most recent figure from Hot Toys the quintessential Wolverine.  Though he might not be sporting his more iconic costumes, this version of Jackman’s Logan gives fans the best representation of the character as he’s appeared on film to date.
